Our clients’ house is one of a pair of listed 18th century agricultural workers’ cottages. It comprises a two storey main building with an attic storey and a single storey rear extension under a catslide roof linked to the main roof. It has an undistinguished single storey garage extension to the side.
Our clients want to build a new garage and utility room to the side with a bedroom over and a new kitchen in a rear extension. We have proposed two detached extensions each linked to the listed building only by means of a glazed lobby so as to preserve the historic fabric of the cottage and enable it to be seen in the round.
