Our client bought three adjoining terraced houses in the Wingham Conservation Area with planning permission for refurbishment and extension to the rear. Unfortunately, the drawings he had were inaccurate and unbuildable. We were engaged to provide accurate drawings, obtain a revised planning permission and obtain building regulations approval for these buildings. In addition, there was an ugly two storey garage sitting adjacent to the end house with a plot of land large enough for a new house.
While our client worked on the refurbishment and extension, he instructed us to design a new house on this plot and get planning permission for it. The plot is in a Conservation Area and there are listed buildings adjacent and close to it. Consequently, we had to produce a design which enhanced the historic setting whilst reflecting our client’s taste for modern buildings. The result is Tetra House.
The house is designed with classical proportions to reflect the heritage context but in a modern style, and the external materials reflect those commonly seen in the Conservation Area. In granting planning permission, the Council concluded that, “The design and form of the building has been kept simple with some modern twists and interpretations whilst being of a scale and form which is appropriate”
