Our clients in Blean near Canterbury had an existing conservatory, the roof of which had come to the end of its useful life. Looking to replace it with something more permanent and insulating, whilst also still allowing plenty of light into the space, we designed a new Zinc roof over the space with big glazed lights. This new modern roof wraps around and then becomes a glazed veranda stretching across the back of the house. This veranda acts as a buffer between the kitchen and the garden, whilst not restricting light into the kitchen.
The conservatory is now more usable, as the the extra insulation means the space is not so cold in the winter and hot in the summer. The work was carried out by Tim Day Construction of Whitstable.
Internally, our clients wanted to replace an existing staircase which leads to a mezzanine in their oast, with something easier to climb and descend. This was technically quite challenging as the shape of the room and the roof restricted the head height, they also wanted something that would not take up too much space or appear heavy in the room.
We worked with Spiral Stairs to design a bespoke helical staircase to the mezzanine, the central spine makes the staircase appear light and elegant in the space, whilst also being a stunning addition to their bedroom and also far easier to use!
