The clients’ brief was to design a house that was future proofed for turning the house into a larger family home with an annex. As with a lot of our projects, the brief included a near future plan as well as a long term plan for a second storey. Once planning permission is granted, as long as the work is started within three years, it can’t expire so we recommended applying for planning for a two storey extension but only the first floor was built, which was all the clients require at present.
The first phase of the project included a rear corner extension, with a new utility room, which could become a kitchen and a redesigned shower room, as well as a side extension to the house, a workshop and storage space. The side extension was also designed to be easily incorporated into the main house in the future, if required.
